Amman, January 12 (Petra) His Majesty King Abdullah II, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, attended the launch of the government’s 2026-2029 Executive Programme at the Prime Ministry on Monday, according to a royal court statement. In remarks during the launch, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan said His Majesty’s presence puts the government before its responsibilities to implement the programme in a way that positively impacts citizens.
The prime minister said the Economic Modernisation Vision’s goal for the executive programme includes 392 projects, which will be financed in partnership with the private sector, noting that investments in the programme are valued at approximately JD10 billion for the implementation period.
Hassan noted that tenders for some of these investments will begin to be floated and implemented this year, particularly in the energy, water, transport, and infrastructure sectors.
The prime minister also highlighted that the government will make significant investments through capital expenditure in the health and education sectors, as they are considered among the most vital priorities for citizens, and essential for empowering young people for the future.
With regard to modernising the public sector, Prime Minister Hassan emphasised that economic programmes cannot succeed without an efficient and effective public administration. Therefore, development of the public administration sector, which employs more than a quarter of a million people, is essential and ongoing. He pointed to the plan to establish a national academy for public administration, which will play an important role in preparing an apparatus capable of providing the best services to citizens, in addition to the government’s diligence in ensuring comprehensiveness of digitisation programmes in this sector.
On social protection, the prime minister noted that implementation of the National Social Protection Strategy, launched several months ago, is a key priority for the government, adding that it aims to empower target groups through multiple programmes, such as extending health insurance coverage to all beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund, whom the government has also begun to include in the insurance programme at the King Hussein Cancer Centre.
In this context, the prime minister announced that the King instructed the government today to increase the allocation for the Student Support Fund by JD5 million, bringing the total allocation for the fund this year to JD40 million, which will enable thousands of students to benefit from the grants it offers.
A number of ministers discussed the features of the executive programmes for the Economic Modernisation Vision and the roadmap for public sector modernisation, highlighting projects to accelerate digital transformation and develop government procedures, as well as the Social Protection Strategy vision, which aims to expand the scope of social protection programmes across all categories.
The second executive programme for the Economic Modernisation Vision was designed based on the outcomes of sectoral workshops hosted by the Royal Hashemite Court last year, which were followed by interactive working sessions held by the Prime Ministry, with the participation of experts and specialists from the public and private sectors. The government also held similar workshops to develop the second executive programme for the public sector modernisation roadmap. Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and a number of officials, representatives of the private sector, and media figures attended the launch.
