- King reiterates the importance of supporting Syria and Lebanon’s efforts to safeguard their security, sovereignty, and the safety of their citizens New York, Sept. 21 (Petra) His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday held separate meetings with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meetings, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty underscored the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and both Cyprus and Luxembourg, reaffirming the commitment to further strengthening cooperation across various fields.
Speaking about recent developments in the region, the King reiterated the importance of stepping up international efforts to restore calm and supporting Syria and Lebanon’s efforts to safeguard their security, sovereignty, and the safety of their citizens.
His Majesty warned of the danger posed by Israel’s attempts to exploit the situation in the region to impose new facts on the ground in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza, noting that increasing escalatory measures against Palestinians threatens to exacerbate the crisis. The King underscored the need to ensure that the Palestinian people achieve their full, legitimate rights including establishing their independent state on the basis of the two-state solution. His Majesty also expressed appreciation for Luxembourg’s recognition of the State of Palestine.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the meetings.
