Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Project Targets 334,000 Women in Southern Jordan

Amman, Sept. 9 (Petra) -- A mobile breast cancer screening project launched by the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF), in strategic partnership with the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC), targets approximately 334,000 women in Ma’an, Tafilah, Karak and Aqaba, expanding access to early detection and diagnostic services across the southern governorates.

The project, launched in Ma’an Governorate on Wednesday, will enable nearly 700 women to receive high-quality mammograms through the mobile clinic, which will travel across the four governorates.

The JPMC’s support includes equipping the KHCF mobile clinic with a mammography unit, allowing screening services to reach women in areas with limited access to specialized diagnostic services.

The project also includes awareness and community activities to highlight the importance of early detection and encourage women to undergo regular screening. It seeks to build the capacity of local health and community personnel, strengthen health education and awareness efforts, and provide reliable data to support planning and health policy related to early breast cancer detection.

The launch was attended by Ma’an Governor Khaled Hajjaj, JPMC Chair Mohammad Thneibat, JPMC CEO Abdul Wahab Al-Rawad, King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) Director General Asem Mansour, KHCF Director General Nisreen Qatamish, and representatives of official, local, and relevant entities.

Chair Mohammad Thneibat said the JPMC's support reflects its national responsibility and belief in the humanitarian role of the KHCF in providing comprehensive care for cancer patients.

He affirmed the company’s readiness to continue supporting the Foundation’s efforts to expand healthcare and treatment services for cancer patients across Jordan, stressing the importance of national efforts to ensure access to treatment and care, particularly for people unable to afford its costs.

Thneibat also praised the KHCF as a leading national institution in cancer care and treatment, highlighting its specialized medical services and the efforts of its staff in serving patients.

Director General Nisreen Qatamish expressed the KHCF’s appreciation for JPMC’s support, saying the partnership reflects the importance of coordinated national efforts to promote early breast cancer detection and expand access to screening services, particularly in the southern governorates. She noted that expanding screening services contributes to earlier diagnosis and increases the chances of successful treatment and recovery.

The project builds on joint efforts to strengthen breast cancer prevention and early detection, expand access to screening and diagnostic services, and bring specialized healthcare services closer to women in the southern governorates.
