MP Atieh meets with Arab, Australian delegates ahead of Inter-Parliamentary Union assembly

Amman, Oct. 4 (Petra) - Lower House First Deputy Speaker Khamis Atieh attended a coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group on Sunday ahead of the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly and the 218th Session of the Governing Council in Tanzania.

Atieh joined Arab delegates to discuss agenda items and build consensus on emergency proposals for the assembly.

During the meeting, the Arab Parliamentary Group listened to presentations from candidates competing for the IPU presidency, including the parliamentary speakers of Azerbaijan, Chile, and Australia.

Hamda Sulaiti, Qatari Shura Council Deputy Speaker and Arab representative on the IPU Executive Committee, presented a report on the committee's work since the previous IPU assembly.

Following discussions, delegates agreed on a unified Arab position regarding the candidates.

Addressing the parliamentarians, Atieh stated the importance of Arab parliamentary unity, noting the "critical role" the IPU presidency in driving international legislative cooperation on key global issues.

On the sidelines, Atieh met with Australian House of Representatives Speaker Milton Dick, one of the candidates for the IPU presidency. The two leaders talked about boosting parliamentary relations.

Dick lauded the Jordanian House of Representatives for its commitment to joint parliamentary work, noting shared priorities between Australia and Arab parliaments.

Atieh voiced Jordan's commitment to collective Arab parliamentary action and the group's consensus.
