Amman, September 26 (Petra) – Twelve people, including a customs official, were killed and 35 others injured in a powerful explosion targeting a checkpoint in the city of Dera Ismail Khan in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to Pakistan's official news agency, police sources said Saturday that no members of the Pakistani army or police were among the casualties, noting that all the victims were civilians.

The sources said the fatalities included nine men, two women and a child. The blast caused extensive damage to the checkpoint and a nearby house, while reports indicated that heavy gunfire broke out following the explosion.
