Political Affairs Minister: Modernization process expands youth engagement

Amman, Oct 5 (Petra) – Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul-Monem Al-Odat said on Monday Jordan is steadily forging ahead with the political modernization scheme that opens the door wide for youth engagement and to actively participate in decision-making.

In remarks at a seminar on the role of Jordanian youth in political development, organized by the Knights of Change Association for Political and Civil Society Development at the Department of National Library, Al-Odat said youth are a key pillar for the success of the modernization scheme.

He said legislation governing political life, namely the Political Parties Law and the Election Law, has established an advanced framework for political and partisan activity, paving the way for a parliament based on political parties, platforms, and visions, effectively reflecting citizens' priorities and aspirations.

Partisan work based on political platforms is an optimal path to translate citizens' concerns and needs into actionable programs and policies, which enhances the presence of youth in public life, broadens the base of political participation, and drives the modernization process toward its goals, said the minister.

Also addressing the seminar, Senator Amjad Al-Jumeian said political development is not achieved merely by inviting youth to participate, but it requires empowering them to translate ideas into policies, legislation, and tangible impact.

He called for building a permanent institutional bridge between youth and state institutions to make them partners in shaping political development and the nation's future.

Knights of Change Association President Abdul-Fattah Al-Hayek said civil society organizations must be active partners in the nation’s journey, which involves qualifying youth, preparing conscious national leaders capable of assuming responsibility, and fostering political awareness, a culture of dialogue, and participation in public life.

He noted that His Majesty the King has placed youth at the core of the modern Jordanian state project, recognizing them as the nation’s present, future, and source of renewable energy.

Al-Hayek also pointed to the Association’s initiatives and programs, ranging from support of the Palestinian cause and relief efforts to youth-focused activities, as well as the launch of the "Entrepreneurial Nashama in Leadership Roles" earlier this year.
