Amman, Sept. 27 (Petra) -- Qatari intellectual Mohammed Al-Misfer said His Majesty King Abdullah II's address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was strong and candid, striking a chord across the Arab world, particularly through its clear position on developments in Palestine and the region.
Speaking at a seminar titled "Jordan in the Second Millennium: A Model of a Stable State" as part of the Amman International Book Fair, Al-Misfer said the address, moderated by fellow journalist Hamza Al-Akaileh, deserved serious consideration by Arab intellectual and political elites and should be translated into practical positions and action plans.
He called for stronger Arab coordination to address shared challenges.
Al-Misfer said Jordan represents a model of stability and a key pillar of joint Arab action, overcoming its limited resources and the weight of regional crises.
Regional developments, particularly in Syria and efforts to rebuild the country, offer Jordan an opportunity to reclaim its historic role as a vital trade and transport bridge linking the Gulf, the Levant, Turkiye, and Europe, as well as a hub for strengthening Arab economic and political integration, he said.
Assessing the balance of power, Al-Misfer said the Arab world has demographic, economic, and military advantages, as well as substantial sovereign wealth funds. Still, the gap lies in organization, political will, and the deployment of resources within a comprehensive strategic vision.
Building Arab power requires joint projects linking the economy with education, scientific research, technology, and defense, while facilitating the movement of capital and labor to strengthen comprehensive Arab national security, he said.
