Saudi Arabia Condemns Houthi Attacks on Civilian, Economic Sites

Riyadh, Sept. 8 (Petra) -- Saudi Arabia on Tuesday strongly condemned attacks by the Houthi militia targeting civilian and economic facilities in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, which injured 73 civilians, including women and children.

In a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Kingdom also condemned the militia's continued attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and threats to international maritime freedom of navigation.

Saudi Arabia reiterated its categorical rejection of what it described as the militia's hostile approach and criminal conduct, saying the actions threaten the security and stability of Yemen and its Arab and Islamic surroundings and reflect the militia's continued rejection of peace efforts.

The Kingdom affirmed its legitimate right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, protect national resources and safeguard the security and safety of citizens and residents, stressing that it would not tolerate attacks targeting its territory or resources in accordance with international law.

Saudi Arabia warned of the consequences of continued Houthi attacks against civilians and civilian facilities and called for an immediate halt to all forms of escalation and threats to maritime security.

The Kingdom also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and implement relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly resolutions 2216 (2015) and 2722 (2024).
