Amman, July 20 (Petra) – President of the Senate Faisal Fayez said Jordan rejects what he described as Iran's attacks against the Kingdom and will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty or threat to its security and stability.
In an interview with Al Arabiya television on Sunday evening, Fayez said the Iranian chargé d'affaires had been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs and delivered a strong message that Jordan would not accept the continued and repeated use of its airspace and territory by Iranian missiles and drones, stressing that such attacks must stop.
He said Iran's regional policies have contributed to escalating tensions and undermining regional security and stability by "interfering in the internal affairs of several Arab countries through proxy groups and networks, and using pressure tactics aimed at halting the U.S. campaign against it, including threatening navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and targeting Jordan and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states." Fayez said Iran's actions reflected attempts to expand its regional influence and hegemony.
He also accused Iran of conducting media campaigns against Jordan aimed at inciting unrest and encouraging demonstrations, stressing that Jordanians stand united behind the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and that attempts to interfere in the Kingdom's internal affairs would fail because of national unity and state institutions.
Fayez called for a unified and effective Arab response to what he described as Iranian aggression against Jordan and the GCC states, highlighting the ongoing coordination between His Majesty King Abdullah II and Gulf leaders, particularly during regional crises. He said Arab countries should deliver a clear message to Iran calling for respect for Arab interests and an end to interference in the internal affairs of Arab states.
He added that the Arab response should extend beyond statements of condemnation to include clear political and economic measures, noting that the economic ties between some Gulf states and Iran could serve as an effective source of leverage to safeguard Arab national security.
Fayez also said Iran's claims of supporting the Palestinian cause were inconsistent with its actions, arguing that its primary objective was to expand its regional influence. He added that Tehran has relied on proxy groups in several Arab countries, noting that some have lost influence, including in Syria, while others remain active elsewhere. He further claimed that Iran has not launched missiles at Israel for a prolonged period.
