Amman, July 19 (Petra) – Senate President Faisal Fayez Sunday said the chamber was "closely monitoring escalating" regional security developments, including the direct and indirect Iranian attacks against Jordan and their growing economic and security repercussions.

In a statement, Fayez said Jordan was on the front lines of the regional escalation and faced unprecedented challenges and direct attacks in violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

He said Jordan, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, would defend its sovereignty, national principles, security, and stability, supported by its people, armed forces, and security agencies.

Fayez stressed that Jordan would not allow its territory or airspace to become an arena for regional conflict or to be used in attacks against any friendly or brotherly country.

He said Jordan remained committed to peace, stability, good-neighborly relations, and non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs. However, he said, this did not prevent Iran and its regional proxies from targeting the Kingdom with missiles and drones that threatened its territory and citizens.

Fayez called for national unity behind the King, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, security agencies, and state institutions in confronting the challenges facing the country.

He also urged political parties, civil society groups, and all segments of Jordanian society to remain "vigilant and united," saying national security and stability must take precedence over all other considerations.

Fayez urged the international community to take action to halt Iranian attacks against Jordan and Gulf states, uphold international law, and recognize that Jordan’s security was inseparable from Gulf security.

He added that King Abdullah has "consistently" called for regional conflicts to be resolved through political frameworks and in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
