Amman, March 29 (Petra) -- Senate President Faisal Fayez, during a working visit to Mexico, met several Arab ambassadors and diplomats and discussed with them the current situation in the region and the latest developments in the Iranian-U.S.-Israeli war, as well as the Palestinian issue and the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

During the meeting, Fayez pointed to the challenges facing Jordan due to the conflicts around it and the wars in the region, saying that "Jordan is a politically and security-wise strong state, capable of protecting its security and stability amid the surrounding conflicts, due to the wisdom and political acumen of His Majesty the King, the awareness of the Jordanian people, and the strength of our security agencies and armed forces. At the same time, we are facing economic challenges imposed by the ongoing conflicts and the political and security conditions in the Arab region and its surroundings, most recently the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the expansionist and aggressive policies of the occupying state, in addition to the repercussions of the Iranian-U.S.-Israeli war and its impact on energy and food prices." The meeting was held at the residence of Jordan’s ambassador to Mexico, Adli Al-Khalidi, on the sidelines of the Senate president’s participation in the 46th annual forum of the Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) network and the fourth meeting of the Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians for the Oceans (CAP-Oceans), held in the Mexican capital, according to a statement by the Senate.

Fayez stressed the role of Arab diplomats in defending the just causes of the Arab nation and exposing the reality of the policies of the Israeli occupying state as a rogue state, pointing to Jordan’s efforts to enable the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights and to establish a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

He added that His Majesty King Abdullah II is exerting intensive efforts at all regional and international levels to create a political horizon that ends the Israeli occupation and enables the establishment of a Palestinian state on the basis of the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.

Fayez affirmed Jordan’s rejection of Israel’s aggressive and expansionist policies, its absolute rejection of any infringement on its national constants and supreme interests, and the forced displacement of Palestinians, noting that His Majesty the King consistently stresses that any solutions to the Palestinian issue at the expense of Jordan are illusory and futile solutions that Jordan will firmly confront.

He outlined Jordan’s position on the Iranian-U.S.-Israeli war, explaining that Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, calls for an end to this war due to its serious repercussions on the Middle East and the world.

He said that the King has affirmed that Jordan will not allow itself to become a battleground for any party, stressing the Kingdom’s rejection of any attack that affects its security, stability and sovereignty, or any attack that affects the security of the brotherly Gulf states and all Arab countries, noting that Iranian attacks using missiles and drones on Jordan and Arab countries are unacceptable, rejected and condemned.

Fayez pointed out that the King has called on the international community, through intensive contacts and meetings with world leaders since the outbreak of the war, to work towards achieving a comprehensive and sustainable de-escalation among all concerned parties, contributing to restoring stability to the region and achieving peace for all, warning that the expansion of the war would push the region into further conflict and chaos.

He added that the King has stressed in his contacts and meetings that this war must not distract the international community from the need to push for obliging the Israeli occupying state to implement the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and to work to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Fayez reviewed the challenges facing the Arab nation, noting that confronting them requires a unified Arab position to deal with the various crises and conflicts in the region, indicating that the state of fragmentation has made many Arab countries arenas for conflicts involving regional and global powers.

He noted that the reality of the Arab nation will not be as it was before the events of October 7, 2023, and the Iranian-U.S.-Israeli war, warning that unless Arab countries align around unity and shared interests, they will face more dangerous challenges in the future, and the region will continue to be a battleground for regional and international ambitions.

Fayez called for effective Arab action through convening an Arab summit whose decisions would be decisive and effective in confronting the expansionist policies of regional states and the aggressive and expansionist policies of the Israeli occupying state, issuing resolutions that would enable Arab countries to preserve their national security, stability and sovereignty; maintain independent political decision-making; and safeguard their regional and international interests, stressing that the current Arab reality requires practical decisions.

He also stressed that the current circumstances facing the Arab nation necessitate overcoming political differences, noting that the Arab nation, with its significant political, economic and human resources, is capable if its efforts are unified of becoming a regional and international force that cannot be bypassed or violated.

He said that the first steps towards Arab integration and unity begin with establishing a comprehensive Arab economic and customs union to confront sustainable development challenges, enhance economic advancement, and achieve Arab integration amid rapidly evolving crises, warning that the continuation of the current situation will prevent future progress and leave Arab countries vulnerable to external ambitions and interference.

For their part, Arab diplomats and ambassadors expressed appreciation for Jordan’s positions on various just Arab causes, praising the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II and his continued endeavors at all levels and international forums to defend Arab causes.

They also expressed appreciation for the pivotal role played by Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II in addressing regional challenges and establishing a just peace in the region so that its peoples may enjoy security and stability.
