Amman, Aug. 26 (Petra) - The Senate's Labor and Social Development Committee met with the Social Security Corporation (SSC) to review the corporation’s quarterly financial reports for the first and second quarters of 2026.

Presenting the first-quarter indicators, SSC Director General Hazim Rahahleh stated that total insurance revenues rose 3.16 percent year-over-year to JD633.2 million. Insurance expenditures increased 10.96 percent to JD562.2 million, with pensions accounting for JD538.5 million, resulting in an insurance contribution surplus of JD63 million. Administrative expenses declined 26.87 percent to JD8 million.

On investment, total assets managed by the Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF) grew 2.8 percent during the first quarter to reach JD19.171 billion by the end of March 2026.

Comprehensive income reached JD486 million, driven by investment income and portfolio revaluations. The annualized return on assets stood at 5.8 percent, or a real return of 4.42 percent after adjusting for inflation.

Assets were primarily distributed across bonds with 56.7 percent, equities with 20.7 percent, money market instruments with 10.5 percent, and real estate with 6 percent.

Senators stated the value of enhancing investment efficiency and recommended incorporating specific key performance indicators (KPIs) in future reports to strengthen parliamentary oversight and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the fund.

Committee Chair Issa Murad noted that the quarterly review is a statutory requirement under the Social Security Law, providing the Senate with a regular framework to monitor the SSC’s performance, financial position, and investment portfolios.
