Study: Nashama’s World Cup journey, fan scenes generate wide global media and digital attention

Amman, June 29 (Petra) -- A specialised media study prepared by Makana 360 showed that Jordan’s national football team, the Nashama, and the nationwide fan scenes that accompanied its participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup generated significant global media and digital attention.

The study, which tracked media and digital coverage between June 14 and 29, found that coverage related to Jordan and the Nashama recorded a potential reach of around 3.06 billion across social media platforms, online news outlets, newspapers, television and radio coverage from around the world. According to the study, the coverage generated 59.1 thousand social media mentions, producing around 6.8 million engagements, in addition to 22.8 thousand news and media articles published across approximately 5.7 thousand media and digital outlets.

The study indicated that the coverage went beyond the sporting dimension of Jordan’s World Cup participation, highlighting the Kingdom as a destination where sport, culture and history intersect.

It pointed in particular to the widely shared scenes of Jordanian fans gathering at the Roman Theatre in Amman, the ancient city of Jerash and Aqaba, which gained traction across platforms including X, Instagram and Facebook, as well as on international media and digital platforms.

The visual content, the study noted, was a key driver of the story’s global spread. Images and videos of thousands of Jordanians supporting their national team from historic and touristic sites presented a powerful national scene, strengthening Jordan’s digital presence and linking the football moment to the Kingdom’s cultural and tourism identity.

The study also showed that the coverage reached audiences across several countries and languages (US, Argentina, Spain, ..ets) with clear local, regional and international engagement. This, it said, reflected the wider communications impact of the Nashama’s participation and the role of Jordanian fans in presenting a positive and memorable image of the Kingdom to the world.

Makana 360 said the momentum created by the coverage represents an important opportunity to build on Jordan’s international visibility, using sport as an entry point to promote the country, strengthen its presence in global media, and turn major sporting moments into human, cultural and tourism stories with worldwide reach.
