Tafileh Municipality Joins Solar Power Project

Tafileh, Sept. 9 (Petra) -- The Greater Tafileh Municipality has entered a new phase of a project installing solar panel systems on municipal buildings across the southern region that will cut electricity costs and advance the shift toward clean energy.

The project is part of a national program run by the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, with support from Italy's Ministry of Environment and Energy Security.

It will ease the financial burden of electricity bills and reduce the municipality's operating costs, freeing up resources to improve services for residents and develop infrastructure, said Tafileh Municipal Council Chairman Mohammad al-Kraimeen.

Implementing the project in southern municipalities, following completion of its northern phase, reflects the government's commitment to expanding renewable energy solutions and investing in sustainable projects that improve energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the project targets 104 municipalities, with solar systems to be installed on 188 municipal buildings at a combined capacity of about 3.4 megawatts.

It is estimated to save about JD550,000 in electricity bills annually and reduce about 3,838 tons of carbon dioxide in emissions.

The project also includes training more than 550 municipal staff to enhance their capacity to manage and operate solar energy systems efficiently and sustainably.
