Amman, Jan. 12 (Petra) -- Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin on Monday met with European Union (EU) Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, in the presence of European Union ambassadors accredited to the Kingdom, to discuss ways to enhance Jordanian-European cooperation in the transport sector and review available investment opportunities.
Qatamin highlighted the importance of the Jordanian-European summit, chaired by His Majesty King Abdullah II with the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission, noting that it underscored Jordan’s role as a strategic partner in regional security and stability and contributed to strengthening the longstanding partnership based on shared interests in stability and prosperity.
During the meeting, Qatamin reviewed national plans and strategies aimed at developing and modernizing the transport sector across all modes, with a focus on improving system efficiency, supporting economic growth, enhancing environmental sustainability, and raising service quality, in line with government priorities and comprehensive modernization programs.
He also outlined key current and planned projects, particularly in public and urban transport, logistics development, modernization of the land freight fleet, establishment of logistics centers, and the development of border crossings to facilitate the movement of passengers and goods and improve operational performance.
Qatamin said the Kingdom is moving toward the adoption of modern technologies and smart transport systems, while continuing to implement the Economic Modernization Vision, especially in areas related to regional connectivity and regional railway projects. He stressed the importance of integrating Jordan into these initiatives to strengthen its position as a regional logistics hub and an active link in regional and international transport networks. He also reviewed investment opportunities in aviation infrastructure, multimodal transport, and airspace management to enhance international connectivity.
For his part, Chatzisavas said the European Union remains committed to supporting Jordan’s efforts to develop the transport sector, commending the reforms and ambitious plans being implemented by the government. He added that the European Union stands ready to expand technical cooperation and share European expertise in ways that serve mutual interests.
The meeting falls within the framework of the strategic partnership between Jordan and the European Union and reflects the two sides’ keenness to broaden cooperation in key sectors that support sustainable development and regional integration.
