Water attacks dismantled in Amman's Al-Qastal, Na'ur areas

Amman, June 30 (Petra) – Ministry of Water and Irrigation, in cooperation with the relevant security authorities, has detected "significant" violations against water sources in Al-Qastal and Na'ur areas, south of Amman.

The perpetrators illegally drilled wells and tampered with major water mains to extract and sell water via unlicensed tankers.

This action is part of the ministry's ongoing campaign to tighten control over water resources.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry said it was tipped off that several water tankers were filling up at night and selling water illegally in Na'ur district, which prompted a security crackdown, in coordination with the relevant authorities.

During the operation, 7 major violations on water pipelines with diameters of 2 inches and 1 inch were detected.

These fixtures were used to fill illegal pools and tankers and sell water to residents.

The violations were removed, and investigations are ongoing to complete the legal procedures against the violators.

In a joint operation in Al-Qastal area, in coordination with the police forces, the operation led seizure of 2 unlicensed drilling rigs that were used to drill unlicensed wells in a farm.

The ministry said the illegal wells were backfilled, the rigs were confiscated, and the necessary reports were prepared to initiate legal action against perpetrators.
