Zarqa, Oct. 27 (Petra) -- Zarqa Municipality intensified its field operations on Tuesday to address the prevailing severe weather, clearing storm drains and carrying out precautionary measures to maintain public safety and traffic flow across the city.
Zarqa Municipal Committee Chairman Khaled Al-Khashman told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that proactive steps were taken ahead of the rainstorm, including inspecting drainage infrastructure, monitoring low-lying hazard zones, and raising operational readiness.
Al-Khashman explained that field personnel were divided into 12 primary response teams and two backup units to ensure broad coverage and rapid emergency intervention.
Field crews addressed several weather-related incidents, including setting up concrete barriers to protect residential basements from flooding and pumping out accumulated rainwater inside a local underpass to restore normal traffic flow.
Al-Khashman noted that a brief power outage occurred during the underpass pumping operation but was resolved within minutes. He reiterated the municipality's commitment to continuous monitoring and called on residents to report blocked drains or standing water to local emergency channels.
