JFDA highlights Jordan's pioneer role in regional pharmaceutical studies

Amman, Oct. 11 (Petra) -- Director General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Rana Obeidat affirmed Sunday that Jordan remains a regional pioneer in pharmaceutical studies, backed by advanced legislative frameworks that enhance the national sector's competitiveness regionally and internationally.
Speaking at the opening of a training workshop titled "The Pharmaceutical Studies Law and Instructions for Conducting Clinical Trials," organized by the ACDIMA Center for Bioequivalence and Pharmaceutical Studies in cooperation with the JFDA and the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (JAPM), Obeidat announced that the administration will soon unveil the key themes of its upcoming international conference on advancing pharmaceutical research. She emphasized that clinical trials and bioequivalence studies form a fundamental pillar for innovation, scientific research, and verifying drug safety, efficacy, and quality.
Secretary-General of the JAPM Hanan Al-Sboul highlighted Jordan’s accumulated expertise and qualified human resources in pharmaceutical research. She stressed that public-private partnerships among the JFDA, academic centers, research institutes, and drug manufacturers continue to drive national innovation and sector growth.
The workshop included a panel discussion on the regulatory landscape governing pharmaceutical trials. Head of the JFDA Pharmaceutical Studies Department, Rima Atoum, detailed legal requirements, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, and stakeholder responsibilities, including ethics committees and principal investigators.
Additionally, Head of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department outlined regulatory controls governing the possession, licensing, storage, and handling of controlled substances utilized in clinical research.
A second session focused on maintaining sector leadership and enhancing the capabilities of local research centers through proposed strategic recommendations.
