Amman, Oct. 28 (Petra) - Customs Department Director General Ahmed Akaleek and Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Asari Hideki inaugurated a customs security enhancement project in Aqaba on Wednesday.
The initiative, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), seeks to boost customs control and inspection systems while improving the efficiency of cargo movement and trade flow.
Akaleek said that modernizing customs operations and expanding international partnerships remain top priorities for Jordan Customs. He noted that adopting modern inspection technologies facilitates legitimate trade, strengthens border security, and protects the national economy.
Noting the Japanese grant as a model of constructive international cooperation, Akaleek thanked Tokyo's continuous support and hailed the ambassador's role in deepening bilateral ties.
The project is expected to boost procedural efficiency in Aqaba and enhance cargo detection capabilities, striking a balance between security requirements and trade facilitation while cementing Aqaba’s role as a major regional trade and logistics hub.
