Amman, Oct. 26 (Petra) -- The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) and Greater Madaba Municipality on Monday named streets after the victims of the terrorist attack on Hmoud Church in Karak Governorate, honoring their memory and reaffirming the values of national unity, solidarity and religious tolerance.
PDTRA Chief Commissioner Adnan Sawaeir announced the naming of a street in Petra as "Martyrs of Hmoud Church" during a solidarity gathering attended by authority employees to condemn the terrorist attack on the church in Hmoud village.
Sawaeir said the initiative reflects Jordan's commitment to strengthening national unity and fraternity among its citizens and preserving the social fabric, which he described as essential to the Kingdom's security and stability.
He emphasized that Jordan, under its Hashemite leadership, remains a model of coexistence and brotherhood, stressing that safeguarding national security and stability is a shared responsibility requiring stronger bonds of love, tolerance and solidarity.
Sawaeir condemned attacks on places of worship as violations of humanitarian values and the principles of tolerance, stressing that such acts would not undermine Jordanian unity or social cohesion but would reinforce the country's commitment to its national principles and values.
Meanwhile, Greater Madaba Municipality announced that it had also named a street "Martyrs of Hmoud Church" in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack in Karak.
Municipal Committee Chair Haitham Jweinat said the decision carries a national and humanitarian message that extends beyond geographical boundaries, reflecting the shared grief of Jordanians and their solidarity in times of hardship.
He stressed that the victims' memory would remain deeply rooted in the hearts of Jordanians and that honoring them requires preserving national unity, promoting tolerance and strengthening ties among citizens.
Jweinat said the initiative also expresses solidarity with the people of Karak and support for the families of those killed and injured in the attack.
He reaffirmed that Jordan would remain a model of national cohesion and brotherhood, emphasizing that an attack on any part of the country's social fabric affects all Jordanians.
