PSD, Penal Reform International Talk Rehabilitation, Criminal Justice Cooperation

Amman, Aug. 17 (Petra) -- Public Security Directorate (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah met on Monday with Taghreed Jaber, Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at Penal Reform International (PRI), to discuss closer cooperation and building on an existing partnership in rehabilitation and criminal justice.

Maaytah said cooperation with PRI supported programs aimed at improving operations at correctional and rehabilitation centers, developing staff capacities, and assisting inmate rehabilitation and reintegration programs.

He pledged the PSD will pursue cooperation with PRI, particularly in developing addiction treatment and rehabilitation programs at the Anti-Narcotics Department’s (AND) Addiction Treatment Center and the addiction treatment facility at Birayn Correctional and Rehabilitation Center.

Such cooperation will help improve treatment and rehabilitation services and enhance recovery and social reintegration programs in line with international practices and standards, he said.

For her part, Jaber commended PSD’s efforts in correction and rehabilitation and its approach to managing correctional and rehabilitation centers. She affirmed PRI’s commitment to continuing cooperation with PSD in support of rehabilitation, recovery, and social reintegration programs.
