Brussels, April 19 (Petra) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide in Brussels on Sunday. The meeting took place on the eve of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) meeting, the international donor coordination mechanism for the Palestinian people, which is chaired by Norway and hosted by the European Union.
During the talks, Safadi emphasized the meeting's vital role in mobilizing support for the Palestinian economy, which faces severe pressure primarily due to Israel's refusal to transfer the Palestinian National Authority’s clearance (customs) revenues.
The two ministers reviewed the situation in the occupied Gaza Strip and West Bank. Safadi underscored the necessity of implementing all provisions of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan regarding Gaza to ensure a sustainable path forward.
Safadi also warned of the catastrophic consequences of Israel's continued illegal measures in the West Bank, noting that such actions undermine all prospects for achieving a just peace.
He expressed appreciation for Norway's steadfast positions and its efforts toward a just peace based on the two-state solution. Safadi specifically noted Norway’s collaborative role with Saudi Arabia in organizing the International Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and garnering international support for the framework.
Furthermore, the ministers discussed the prospects for maintaining regional de-escalation following the recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran. They also touched upon the situation in Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of solidifying the recently reached ceasefire there.
Both Safadi and Eide reaffirmed the commitment of Jordan and Norway to strengthening their partnership and expanding cooperation across various sectors.
