Energy minister calls for boosting employee cyber readiness

Amman, Sep. 1 (Petra) –Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, called for raising awareness about the digital transformation process, promoting digital literacy, and promoting concepts of data governance and cybersecurity, in a bid to integrate these advances in the daily work and tasks of the Ministry of Energy employees.

According to a ministry statement issued Tuesday, Kharabsheh's remarks came during his patronage of the launching ceremony of the "Digital Empowerment Month" campaign.

Organized by the ministry's Digital Transformation Committee, the event highlights the campaign's importance in enhancing employee digital awareness.

Kharabsheh stressed the need for establishing a "clear" vision of the goals of digital transformation and its impact on developing performance.

He urged all ministry employees to engage in the campaign's activities and benefit from its programs.

Affirming digital shift has become a "priority, " he said the ministry is committed to enhancing its digital readiness and capabilities.

He emphasized the importance of achieving higher scores in upcoming digital maturity assessments by promoting past achievements, addressing weaknesses identified in previous evaluations and translating assessment results into clear action plans that contribute to improving the ministry's digital maturity level.

For his part, Salim Salameh, Director of the Digital Transformation Unit at the Prime Ministry, called for strengthening partnerships and integration among government entities in implementing digital transition programs.

He said success of digital transformation depends on the institutions' capacity to develop their digital work environments, enhance their staff readiness and adopt practices that ensure "effective and secure" use of technology and data.

He noted that the Ministry of Energy's engagement in this regard serves as a "model for other ministries and institutions." Meanwhile, Amani Hamdan, from the ministry's Digital Transformation Committee, stated that the campaign's concept was based on results of the digital maturity assessment, as the ministry received a score of 2 out of 5, a result comparable to rates achieved by several other ministries and government institutions.

Held throughout September, the campaign is part of a comprehensive educational and interactive program.

Featuring a range of awareness and training events and activities, the initiative will see participation of several partner organizations and specialists, who will share their expertise and knowledge on issues related to the campaign's themes.

The campaign's activities address 3 main areas: Digital transformation, data, and cybersecurity, aimed is to enhance employees' grasp of the importance of digital technologies.

The sessions will also tackle role of accurate and reliable data in supporting decision-making, and highlight importance of adhering to secure practices when using electronic systems and services.
