Amman, Oct. 29 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Transport and the German Jordanian University (GJU) signed a memorandum of understanding Thursday to strengthen cooperation in road safety, scientific research, training and awareness, and to develop the transport and logistics sector.
Transport Minister and Labor Minister Nidal Qatamin signed on behalf of the ministry. GJU President Ala’aldeen Halhouli signed for the university.
The memorandum aims to promote the exchange of expertise and use scientific research to develop practical solutions to challenges facing transport and road safety. It provides for specialized training courses for staff of the ministry and the Land Transport Regulatory Commission. It also covers a review of the executive plan of the ministry’s Transport Safety and Environment Directorate and exploring the provision of technical advice in transport and logistics.
The two sides will also support sector projects and development-oriented transformation, and examine the possibility of establishing a national advisory council for logistics and transport.
Qatamin stressed the importance of expanding partnerships with universities and specialized scientific institutions, and of drawing on research outcomes and technical expertise to develop the transport system and improve road safety.
He said investment in knowledge, training and capacity building is a key pillar for improving performance and developing services in the sector.
He added that the ministry seeks to strengthen cooperation between government and academic institutions to support policies and initiatives based on scientific studies and data and develop sustainable solutions to challenges facing the sector.
Halhouli underscored the importance of the partnership in linking scientific research to the sector’s practical needs. He said the university’s Road Safety Center of Excellence has academic and technical expertise that can support national efforts to reduce road accidents and improve safety levels.
He added that the cooperation creates opportunities to develop training, research, and awareness programs, exchange expertise, and strengthen scientific and applied solutions in transport and logistics.
