Irbid, Jan. 4 (Petra) - The value of certificates of origin issued by Irbid Chamber of Industry (ICI) during last December reached $153 million, compared to $113 million for the same month in 2024, marking an increase of approximately 20%.
According to the chamber's report, the number of certificates of origin issued in last December reached 1,537, compared to 1,470 for the same period last year.
In a statement, ICI Head, Hani Abu Hassan, stated the increase in exports in December was due to a 17% growth in exports of the leather and textile industries, while exports of the food industries sector grew by 51% and the chemical and cosmetics industries sector went up by 117%.
Abu Hassan stated Al-Hassan Industrial Estate (HIE) accounted for the majority of exports during last December, exceeding 95.5%, followed by Cyber City with over 2.5% of total exports, and the estate's main office with over 1.5%.
On the export growth in December, he said the boom was driven by these sectors, thanks to improved quality of industrial products, increased factory efficiency, and an export-centered shift, driven by the limited size of the domestic market and rising demand.
Abu Hassan added that the industrial sector in Irbid governorate remains a "key" pillar of the national economy, praising the government's role in supporting the industrial investment environment and streamlining procedures, which contributes to maintaining "competitiveness" of Jordanian products.
"The chamber closely monitors export performance on a monthly basis, and seeks with in cooperation with government agencies and partner institutions, to open new markets and diversify the export base," he pointed out.
Abu Hassan noted the next phase requires strengthening the partnership between the Kingdom's public and private sectors to ensure "continued" industrial growth and achieve "sustainable" economic development.
