Tunis, Oct. 7 (Petra) - Jordan participated on Wednesday in the 22nd Arab Conference of Heads of Traffic Services, hosted by the Arab Interior Ministers Council (AIMC) General Secretariat.
In his opening address, AIMC Secretary-General Mohammad bin Ali Koman warned that traffic accidents remain a deadly crisis across Arab nations, claiming thousands of lives annually, injuring tens of thousands, and causing tens of billions of dollars in economic losses.
A council survey of just 10 member states recorded nearly one million crashes, leaving 11,000 dead and 120,000 injured, with human error and traffic violations causing roughly 90 percent of the incidents.
Koman urged member states to provide complete traffic data to help generate comprehensive statistics, empowering policymakers to design effective strategies and reduce road fatalities.
The conference agenda focused on creating a regional traffic analytics database, unifying public traffic awareness messaging across the Arab world, and sharing successful national experiences to improve road safety.
Director of the Traffic Department Raed Assaf represented Jordan at the summit.
