Jordan, Belgian-Luxembourg Chambers of Commerce Talk Cooperation

Amman, Sept. 7 (Petra) -- President of Jordan and Amman Chambers of Commerce Khalil ElHaj Tawfiq met Monday with secretary-general of Arab-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (ABLCC) Qaisar Hijazin to discuss prospects of expanding economic and trade cooperation between Jordan, Belgium and Luxembourg.

The meeting, held at the Amman Chamber of Commerce, focused on linking business communities in the three countries and building private-sector partnerships.

Tawfiq invited Belgian and Luxembourg investors, companies and financial institutions to take part in a Jordan-EU Investment Conference on Nov. 19 at the Dead Sea under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II with the participation of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

He said the conference is a rare opportunity to showcase investment prospects in Jordan's priority sectors and deepen economic ties with the European Union, and help expand the presence of Jordanian products and services in European markets.

The two sides agreed that the Jordan Chamber of Commerce will host a Belgian business delegation attending the conference, arranging direct meetings and bilateral sessions between Jordanian and Belgian companies based on shared sectors of interest.

Tawfiq pointed to the value of the ABLCC's network and its Brussels base, along with the Euro-Arab Market Access Platform, that help Jordanian firms navigate European regulations and standards and expand their exports to EU markets.

Tawfiq sits on the board of the ABLCC, representing the Arab side in his capacity as Jordan Chamber of Commerce president, a role that offers an institutional foundation for joint programs between the two business communities.

Hijazin confirmed arrangements for a Belgian business delegation to join the conference, saying the visit would help identify investment opportunities in Jordan and establish direct partnerships with the Jordanian private sector.

He said the Euro-Arab Market Access Platform, launched by the chamber, supports Arab companies, including Jordanian firms, in entering EU markets by providing guidance on European legislation, standards and regulatory requirements. He described it as a practical tool for boosting export readiness, particularly among small and medium enterprises, while identifying obstacles to market access.

Hijazin pointed to growing economic opportunities in Syria and Lebanon, saying reconstruction efforts there would open broad prospects for trade and investment. He said Jordan's geographic location, stability, infrastructure and sectoral expertise position it as a regional hub for European companies seeking access to reconstruction projects and regional markets.

The ABLCC, founded in 1978 and based in Brussels, has spent more than 45 years fostering economic, trade and investment ties between Arab countries, Belgium and Luxembourg, linking business communities and facilitating communication between companies, while providing information and services related to markets and trade and investment opportunities.
