Amman, Aug. 30 (Petra) – The Jordanian-Saudi Joint Business Council called Sunday for a joint economic action plan focused on concrete projects, investment opportunities and stronger supply-chain resilience amid growing regional and global economic challenges.
At the third joint meeting of the Saudi-Jordanian Business Council in Amman, Chair of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and head of the Jordanian side of the council, Senator Khalil Haj Tawfiq, said the plan should set clear objectives, responsibilities, implementation timelines and measurable indicators.
He stressed the need to move beyond increasing bilateral trade and deepen economic integration by combining Jordanian expertise, human capital and access to international markets with Saudi Arabia's investment capacity and Vision 2030 projects.
Haj Tawfiq called for Jordanian and Saudi companies to form alliances to implement projects in Iraq, Syria and other regional markets, while developing joint supply chains in strategic sectors including food, medicine and logistics.
He also proposed establishing a joint system to strengthen supply-chain security and resilience, including information-sharing on shipping and container movements, early warning mechanisms, alternative trade routes and rapid coordination among ports, customs authorities, transport and shipping companies, and importers in both countries.
For his part, head of the Saudi side of the council, Abdulrahman Thubaiti, said economic relations between Saudi Arabia and Jordan are developing significantly, with mutual investments and new companies, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, reflecting growing private-sector confidence in both markets.
He called for the council's sectoral committees to focus on translating recommendations into projects and helping businesses address operational challenges, while strengthening coordination between investors and government entities.
Thubaiti said the council plans to organize a Saudi-Jordanian Investment Forum and accompanying exhibition in Saudi Arabia next year, alongside the fourth council meeting, to showcase investment opportunities and promote partnerships in priority sectors.
He also highlighted opportunities for cooperation in regional reconstruction and development projects, particularly in contracting, logistics, health, food, technology and finance.
The Saudi official commended measures taken by the Jordanian government to maintain the continuity of business, supply chains and trade amid regional challenges, stressing the importance of stronger public-private sector cooperation to enhance economic resilience.
