Jordan's traffic accidents down by 52% during Eid al-Fitr holiday-PSD

Amman, Mar. 24 (Petra) – A traffic operations officer announced a drop in the number of accidents during the Eid holiday, compared to the same period in 2025.

According to an analytical study, the number of accidents went down by 52% , both in terms of human and material damage.

This improvement reflects the "growing" awareness and commitment of drivers and citizens to the "positive" behaviors consistently highlighted in public awareness campaigns.

During the Eid al-Fitr holiday, he noted some traffic accidents were caused by unsafe driving practices, mainly speeding, improper handling of curves, and incorrect lane changes.

In turn, the operations officer of the Highway Patrols of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) stated all highways experienced "heavy" traffic, and patrols were deployed nationwide from the early morning hours to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safe arrival of citizens at their various destinations.

As for the Eid holiday, he cited a plan was implemented to ensure smooth traffic flow by focusing on several key areas, including enhancing traffic control on all highways, intensifying traffic awareness campaigns, and providing humanitarian aid to people in need.

Despite repeated warnings to avoid dangerous violations, especially high speeds, he said a number of "serious" violations were recorded.

He said a vehicle was caught traveling at 202 km/h, and another at 192 km/h on the Desert Highway.

He added that a vehicle was also caught traveling between 90- 181 km/h on the Azraq Highway, and another was caught traveling between 80-197 km/h in the Dabba Hanout area in the southern governorate of Aqaba.

These two officers urged citizens to adhere to traffic rules, priorities, and speed limits, avoid dangerous violations, to maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure the public's safety.

Encouraging citizens to call the unified emergency number 911 if needed, these officers emphasized "complete" readiness to provide non-stop assistance to people in need.
