Amman, March 30 (Petra) -- The "Hand in Hand" Association for Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship is set to launch an environmental field initiative next month under its "PLANBEE" project, titled "Ward and Amar: Planting Day," aimed at promoting biodiversity conservation and supporting sustainable rural livelihoods.
Funded at 89 percent by the European Union under the European Regional Cooperation for the Mediterranean Basin program, the project has a total budget of approximately €2.8 million. The event is scheduled to take place at the Royal Botanic Garden in Tel al-Rumman, with a field component extending to the Besan Bee Hives in Jerash Governorate.
The initiative will feature a series of hands-on environmental activities, including the planting of indigenous, pollinator-friendly species as part of broader ecosystem rehabilitation efforts. It will also include a field visit to the Besan Bee Hives, where participants will gain practical insight into applied beekeeping techniques and modern honey production processes, showcasing a viable model for sustainable rural enterprise development.
In a statement issued Monday, the association said the initiative is being organized in cooperation with the Royal Botanic Garden, the Jordanian Beekeepers Association, and the Jordan University of Science and Technology, with support from the Ministry of Agriculture. The event is expected to bring together students, sector specialists, local community members, and environmental advocates, highlighting the role of biodiversity in strengthening rural economic resilience.
The PLANBEE project is implemented in partnership with seven entities across six countries, Cyprus, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine, with the aim of advancing local economic growth through the development of the beekeeping sector as a driver of sustainable development.
