Moscow, Sept. 29 (Petra) – Russia's Ministry of Finance announced Tuesday that the country's public debt reached about 20% of gross domestic product (GDP) during 2026, coinciding with a 43% increase in total government borrowing to around $92 billion.

The ministry said in a statement that Russia's total public debt is expected to rise to about 21.7% of GDP during 2027, as the government continues to need financing for public spending and to cover budget requirements.
