Amman, Jan. 4 (Petra) - A new scientific study has revealed an experimental treatment capable of halting Alzheimer’s disease before symptoms emerge, marking what researchers describe as a major breakthrough in therapeutic research into the debilitating neurological disorder.

According to the study, published in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia, laboratory mice genetically modeled to develop Alzheimer’s were given a daily oral dose of the drug over a 60-day period, resulting in a significant reduction in toxic proteins associated with the disease.

As reported by Euronews, the experimental drug "NU-9," developed by researchers at Northwestern University and tested on animal models, showed promising results. The treatment was able to stop neurodegeneration linked to Alzheimer’s in its early stages, even before patients would typically begin forgetting names or losing the ability to recognize faces.

The drug also demonstrated a notable ability to suppress what is known as "reactive astrocyte proliferation," one of the main indicators of early neuroinflammation.
