New York, Oct. 5 (Petra) -- United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern on Monday over the sharp escalation of fighting in Yemen, which has intensified significantly in recent days.

In a statement issued on his behalf, Guterres condemned cross-border Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, adding that he is closely monitoring developments, including their impact on civilian populations.

Guterres urged all parties to engage constructively with the UN Special Envoy for Yemen to achieve a comprehensive, negotiated political settlement.
