US President Donald Trump praised Jordan and several other countries for contributing to efforts to stabilise Gaza through the training of police forces.
He said 30 countries had joined the Peace Council, which he chairs, and discussed financial contributions by several countries Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Uzbekistan to support the reconstruction of Gaza.
Trump said that, since taking office, he had helped resolve eight conflicts, citing disputes between Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, India and Pakistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the war in Gaza.
President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh said that the United Nations is "indispensable" and that an alternative to its existence is "simply inconceivable." He said the organisation has "brought humanity together under one roof something unprecedented in its history." Rahman outlined three ways to rebuild trust in the United Nations: being candidly realistic about areas where it falls short, conducting a substantive review of necessary reforms and making its work more inclusive by engaging all stakeholders to ensure effective outcomes.
Speaking during the general debate of the 81st session, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticised the UN Security Council, saying, "We have all become hostages to the UN Security Council's inaction and its failure to fulfill its role." He added, "The United Nations is failing to save humanity from the scourge of war, and its credibility has never been lower; we are all hostages to the Security Council's failure to act." Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Türkiye had established a defence alliance with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan aimed at strengthening solidarity among the three countries and ensuring that solutions to regional challenges originate within the region.
He said recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea were unacceptable, regardless of the party responsible urged maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He discussed the importance of maritime corridor security for regional and international stability.
