Salt, Sept. 24 (Petra) --The Al-Balqa Applied University has secured the MED-BALKAN AI EDU project under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education program, with total funding of around €350,000 and the participation of universities and academic institutions from Jordan, Portugal, Latvia, Kosovo and Egypt.

The project seeks to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence and digital transformation in higher education, while strengthening the digital education and innovation capabilities of academic and administrative staff. It will also focus on developing students’ digital, green and entrepreneurial skills to better prepare them for the changing demands of the labor market.

University President Ahmad Ajlouni said the university’s success in securing the project reflects its academic standing and the confidence placed in its capabilities by international institutions. He added that it underscores the university’s commitment to keeping pace with advances in AI and digital transformation, expanding international cooperation and promoting the exchange of expertise and knowledge.

Asmaa Wreikat, head of the university’s project team, described the initiative as an important step toward strengthening the capacity of higher education institutions and responding to rapid developments in education and technology.

She said the university would work alongside its international partners to develop innovative teaching practices and encourage the effective and responsible use of AI in education.

The project brings together higher education institutions from five countries, Jordan, Portugal, Latvia, Kosovo and Egypt, under the leadership of the Latvian partner. The international partnership is expected to create opportunities for sharing expertise and best practices in digital education and the use of AI applications in higher education.

Wreikat leads the university’s project team in cooperation with a number of faculty members, as part of the university’s broader efforts to expand its participation in European and international projects and strengthen its network of academic partnerships.
