Aqaba, May 11 (Petra) -- Aqaba Water Company on Monday signed a consultancy services agreement with Consulting Engineering Center (SAJDI) to rehabilitate and reconstruct water networks in northern areas of Karak under a World Bank-funded project valued at $1.33 million.

The project targets the areas of Qatraneh, Sultani, Abyad and Muhi through integrated engineering studies and designs, alongside the construction of main and secondary water networks aimed at improving supply efficiency and enhancing services provided to residents.

Aqaba Water Company Director General Wael Dwairi‏ and the manager of SAJDI’s tenders unit, Halla Buqaieen, signed the agreement.

The project will be implemented over 27 months in three phases. The first phase comprises engineering studies, design work and tender document preparation over eight months.

The second phase covers pre-construction services for four months, followed by a 15-month implementation supervision phase.

Dwairi‏ said the project marks an important step in efforts to develop water infrastructure in Karak, adding that it will contribute to sustainable solutions aimed at improving water conditions, enhancing network efficiency, reducing water loss and improving supply continuity in targeted areas.

He added that Aqaba Water Company values its partnership with SAJDI due to its specialized technical and engineering expertise in implementing and managing water projects.

Dwairi expressed hope that the project would be completed on the highest engineering and technical standards to achieve its objectives of improving water services and strengthening network efficiency for residents in the targeted areas.

Buqaieen, in turn, said the project is a model of cooperation between technical and financing entities to develop the water sector, adding that work will include integrated field and hydraulic studies and analysis of existing network conditions to develop engineering solutions that ensure operational efficiency and long-term service sustainability.

The project is part of a series of development initiatives implemented by Aqaba Water Company in cooperation with funding and supporting entities to improve infrastructure efficiency and water services across southern governorates.
