AMMAN, Sept. 12 (Petra) – A recent public opinion survey conducted by the Arab Barometer network reveals that economic concerns remain at the forefront of Jordanians' priorities, alongside a notable rise in public trust toward the government and key public services.

According to the ninth-cycle report, carried out in October of last year with a representative sample of 1,266 citizens, 59 percent of Jordanians identify the economic situation as the primary challenge facing the Kingdom.

Twenty-seven percent of respondents described current economic conditions as very good–a five-point increase over 2023 levels–while others expressed optimism that economic conditions will improve over the next two to three years.

Roughly half of Jordanians (49 percent) express substantial or noticeable trust in the government, representing a ten-point jump from the 39 percent recorded in late 2023. Trust in the Prime Minister similarly advanced 11 points to reach 49 percent. By contrast, trust in parliament remained largely unchanged at 27 percent. Satisfaction with overall government performance advanced to 61 percent.

Service sectors received high ratings, with satisfaction rates hitting 90 percent for maintaining security and order, 79 percent for electricity supply, and 67 percent and 66 percent for healthcare and education, respectively.

Sixty-five percent of surveyed individuals registered support for equal employment opportunities between men and women, while 46 percent believe freedom of expression is guaranteed to a great or moderate degree.

Regarding environmental concerns, 30 percent of participants flagged water scarcity as the most severe environmental challenge facing the Kingdom, followed by air quality at 14 percent and waste management at 10 percent.

An overwhelming 93 percent favor prioritizing alternative energy development, seven out of ten (71 percent) support the phased elimination of fossil fuels, and nearly eight out of ten (78 percent) back establishing a shared timeline to phase out high-pollution vehicles–levels mirroring late 2023 metrics and signaling steady backing for sweeping ecological transitions.

On political engagement, 22 percent of participants reported being interested or very interested in politics, holding near parity with late 2023 figures.

Regarding government spending, economic development captured the top spot at 35 percent–climbing from 30 percent two years prior–followed by education at 14 percent and healthcare at 13 percent, signaling a structural pivot toward growth and employment over direct subsidies.

Ninety-one percent of respondents categorized Jordan as the nation most dedicated to defending the Palestinian cause and the most credible intermediary for fostering a just political resolution.
