Baku Climate Action Week 2026 Discusses Expedited Energy Transition

Amman, Sept. 10 (Petra) -- Participants at Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW) 2026 tackled mechanisms to accelerate energy transition and enhance global climate action, focusing on renewable energy, climate finance, emissions reduction, and regional cooperation.

In a press release issued Thursday, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Amman stated that the forum covers Azerbaijan's expanding role in green energy, opportunities for exporting electricity generated from renewable sources, and green hydrogen development.

Discussions also highlighted the role of regional power grid interconnections in securing energy supplies and supporting the shift to clean energy.

Talking at the event, President of COP29 and Azerbaijani Presidential Representative for Climate Issues Mukhtar Babayev underscored the necessity of translating climate commitments into actionable outcomes.

He noted that hosting the Baku event for the third consecutive year reflects his country's commitment to "prioritizing" climate initiatives and building international partnerships.

For her part, Nigar Arpadarai, MP, Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 and BCAW Project Lead stated the event has solidified its position within global climate weeks, emphasizing Azerbaijan's continued role in driving climate dialogue following COP29.

Sessions also explored the application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in climate change adaptation, specifically within agricultural systems and water resource management.

BCAW runs through Sept. 11, held in conjunction with the UNFCCC Climate Week.
