Chinese envoy highlights economic, investment prospects with Jordan

Amman, Sept. 10 (Petra) -- Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei outlined plans to expand bilateral economic ties and follow up on the outcomes of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s recent visit to China during a panel discussion hosted by the Jordanian Economic Forum (JEF).

The session was chaired by Senator Issa Murad, a JEF board member, with the participation of JEF Chairman Kheir Abu Salik, board members, and general assembly representatives.

Guo announced that Chinese commercial, investment, and tourism delegations from various provinces and municipalities will visit Jordan in the coming days to translate the royal visit’s outcomes into practical cooperation.

He expressed Beijing’s readiness to deepen communication with Jordanian entities seeking to collaborate with Chinese firms and investors, noting that contacts are underway in both countries to accelerate the implementation of agreements.

The ambassador highlighted the significance of the royal visit, which coincides with the strategic partnership entering its second decade since 2015 and precedes next year's 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations established in 1977.

Discussions between His Majesty King Abdullah and Chinese leadership covered shared interests, demonstrating alignment between China’s modernization efforts and Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision, Guo said.

He reiterated China's willingness to transfer expertise and technology to support Jordan’s modernization agenda, emphasizing support for the second executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision.

Reviewing the king’s itinerary in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Beijing, Guo noted Shenzhen’s transformation into a major economic center with a gross domestic product reaching nearly $500 billion in 2025. He suggested Jordan could draw on Shenzhen’s experience to build a new green, environmentally friendly city powered by renewable energy.

Addressing automotive issues, Guo said he is following up on mechanical faults involving the sudden stalling of certain Chinese vehicles to ensure proper resolution.

Abu Salik emphasized that nearly 50 years of diplomatic relations provide a strong foundation to expand economic cooperation, adding that the royal visit reflected Jordan's interest in leveraging Chinese technological and economic expertise.

To address the trade imbalance between the two countries, Abu Salik called for increasing the added value of Chinese investments in Jordan, particularly in technology.

Senator Murad urged major Chinese corporations to expand their presence in Jordan and utilize its trade agreements, pointing to opportunities in transport, education, and information technology.

He also inquired about progress on implementing the Belt and Road Initiative memorandum of understanding into joint projects.
