Ajloun, Sept. 10 (Petra) -- Cultural and youth initiatives in Ajloun Governorate are working to document the history and social heritage of the region through digital platforms, research projects, and media content aimed at preserving local memory for future generations.
Samer Freihat, Director of the Ajloun Culture Directorate, said the Ajloun Knowledge Encyclopedia project aims to compile data on historical sites, notable figures, significant events, and local traditions to create a comprehensive database for researchers.
Freihat emphasized the role of youth in collecting stories and historical documents, urging residents to contribute photos, records, and information to enrich the encyclopedia.
Nuseibah Al-Smadi, head of the Ajloun Youth Council, noted that the council organizes field visits to heritage sites starting with the historical Government House (Dar Al-Hukuma) to connect young people with local history while documenting traditional customs, dress, and social practices.
Rashed Freihat, coordinator of the Wahet Al-Fikr W’al-Ibda initiative, said his group focuses on highlighting the legacies of influential figures from the governorate, including a recent commemorative event recognizing the academic contributions of Nouh Al-Faqir.
Youssef Al-Smadi, founder of the Hikayat Makan initiative, explained that his project conducts interviews with residents to document oral histories of villages, landmarks, and community figures, converting their stories into media content to preserve the governorate's historical narrative.
