Dissolution of chambers of commerce's boards aligns with legal framework, official source says

Amman, Sept. 19 (Petra) -- A decision by the Cabinet to dissolve the board of directors of chambers of commerce nearly two months ahead of their upcoming elections fully complies with governing legislation, an official government source said on Saturday.

The source noted that the move forms part of efforts to ensure good governance during the electoral process, allowing candidates sufficient time to prepare for and run their campaigns.

While reviewing plans in July for both chamber of commerce and chamber of industry elections, the government determined that dissolving boards at least two months prior to polling day is essential to maintaining institutional governance and preventing potential conflicts of interest.

The source clarified that chamber of industry elections take place two months earlier than those of chambers of commerce. Consequently, the chamber of industry boards could not be dissolved more than a month in advance, as their elections are scheduled for early next month.

The source reaffirmed that a two-month timeframe provides ample opportunity to organize elections with full neutrality, transparency, and strict adherence to statutory requirements.
