Amman, Sept. 30 (Petra) - The Oil Derivatives Pricing Committee announced on Wednesday new fuel prices for the month of October, approving partial price increases for gasoline and diesel while freezing kerosene and cooking gas rates.

Prices for Octane 90, Octane 95, and diesel will increase by 50 fils per liter, while kerosene and cooking gas prices will remain unchanged.

The new prices are as follows: - 90-octane gasoline: 1,050 fils/liter - 95-octane gasoline: 1,360 fils/liter - Diesel: 900 fils/liter - Kerosene: 550 fils/liter - LPG cylinder (12.5 kg): Fixed at JD7 The committee attributed the global market surge to regional geopolitical tensions. To shield consumers and the national economy from sharp price shocks, the government opted to absorb part of the increase, rather than pass on the full international costs.

The government will also provide JD1.8 million in subsidies for industrial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) during October.

Although domestic fuel pricing is benchmarked against average international prices over the preceding 30 days, local rates remain substantially below actual market costs. For October, actual costs stood at 1,077 fils for diesel, 1,044 fils for kerosene, and 1,112 fils for Octane 90.

Government subsidies and price absorption mechanisms have reached approximately JD255 million since the onset of the energy crisis through September.

Officials stated that they will continue monitoring global energy trends monthly to balance consumer protection with fiscal stability.
