Amman, Sept. 22 (Petra) -- Jordan's junior kickboxing teams made a strong start to the World Championships in Jesolo, Italy, securing five victories on the opening day of competition in a tournament featuring 3,800 athletes from 74 countries.
Jamal Samreen opened Jordan's winning run with a victory over Ukraine's Dashko Hlib, while Saadeddin Ldawai defeated Greece's Atoliko Francesco.
Abdelilah Jarrar added a win over Ireland's Finn Owen, Ahmad Bashabsheh overcame Poland's Glowienka Igor, and Zaid Dabaj defeated Ukraine's Uvarov Erik to complete Jordan's five opening-day victories.
Rayan Momani, Yamen Batoush, Musab Maghrabi and Omar Batoush were eliminated following defeats in their respective bouts.
Amir Abu Al-Nadi's bout was stopped by the tournament doctor as a safety precaution. The Jordanian athlete is in good health.
Jordan's athletes will return to action Wednesday as competition at the World Championships continues.
The Jordanian delegation is headed by Jordan Kickboxing Federation President Abdullah Abu Rumman, with Mohammad Farhan overseeing the technical team. The coaching staff comprises Murad Jarajreh, Odai Maharmeh and Rawan Hannafawi, while Abtan Awaisheh serves as delegation administrator.
Referees Imad Jbour and Tala Rifai and team doctor Yasser Khairallah are also part of the delegation.
