Amman, Sept. 27 (Petra) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh stated on Sunday that Jordan is tapping China’s clean-tech expertise and industrial scale to modernize its national energy sector, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Following His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visit to China, Kharabsheh stated how Chinese innovation is helping shape the Kingdom’s clean energy transition. A key milestone from the royal delegation's trip was a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with China’s National Energy Administration, which Kharabsheh described as a turning point that transforms cooperation into concrete, industrial-scale projects.

The framework prioritizes joint ventures in electricity grid modernization, green hydrogen and ammonia production, grid-scale battery storage, and the localized manufacturing of clean-tech components. "Jordanian-Chinese energy cooperation is not limited to meeting the Kingdom's energy needs," Kharabsheh told Xinhua, describing the partnership as a catalyst for economic growth, emerging industries, and Jordan’s ambition to serve as a regional green energy center. The initiatives align with Jordan’s Energy Sector Strategy, which centers on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into power distribution, expanding the share of renewables in the national mix, and deploying energy storage technologies to manage grid fluctuations.

Beyond power generation, the collaboration targets improvements in energy efficiency across heavy water usage, transport, and manufacturing. By attracting high-value Chinese investments and promoting technology transfer, the Kingdom seeks to deepen its domestic supply chains, create specialized local jobs, and elevate overall economic competitiveness. Kharabsheh praised Chinese firms already operating in Jordan for their technical contributions to expanding domestic generation capacity.
