Royal Jordanian Adds 17th A320neo-Family Aircraft to Fleet

Amman, Sept. 8 (Petra) -- Royal Jordanian (RJ) Airlines has received its 17th aircraft from the Airbus A320neo family, bringing its fleet to 36 aircraft as the carrier continues a multi-year fleet modernization and expansion program.

The new aircraft is among 10 aircraft of various types added to the fleet since the beginning of this year, as Royal Jordanian expands capacity and its destination network.

In a statement Tuesday, Vice Chairman and CEO Samer Majali noted that the A320neo family is a "key" part of the airline’s short- and medium-haul operations to destinations across the Middle East, Gulf region, Africa, and Europe.

An additional aircraft is scheduled to join the fleet in December, bringing the number of A320neo-family aircraft to 18 by year-end. Two more are planned for 2027 and 2028, raising the total to 20, while an additional Airbus A321 is expected to enter service next year.

Royal Jordanian has designated three A320neo aircraft for its Premium Economy service, positioned between Economy and Crown business class.

For long-haul operations, the airline added two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners this year and expects a third in 2027. Its longer-term fleet plan calls for nine aircraft of this type to be introduced progressively over the coming years.

Majali explained that the 787-9 additions are intended to support expansion of the airline’s long-haul network, citing their range and fuel efficiency. The aircraft are also equipped with internet connectivity, updated entertainment systems, and Crown Class seats that convert into fully flat beds.

Royal Jordanian has also upgraded its existing fleet of seven Boeing 787-8 aircraft, installing Wi-Fi connectivity, refurbishing cabin interiors, and repainting the aircraft in the airline’s updated livery.

The carrier currently operates eight Embraer E2 aircraft, primarily serving its regional network and routes with varying levels of demand.

Majali indicated that the fleet and network expansion is being implemented in line with market demand, operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and Jordan’s tourism strategy. He added that the fleet modernization plan underwent the required studies and approvals under the company’s governance procedures.

He also pointed to "positive" financial results in the first half of the year, alongside growth in revenue, passenger numbers, and operations, despite challenges affecting the regional aviation industry.

Royal Jordanian is concurrently expanding its international network, with new destinations including Misrata, Munich, Hamburg, Sharjah, Alexandria, Dallas, Vienna, and Tashkent. The airline aims to expand its network to around 60 destinations in the coming years.
