Amman, Sept. 28 (Petra) - The Ministry of Water and Irrigation seized several wastewater tankers on Monday caught illegally dumping industrial waste in the Qastal area, south of Amman.

The operation was launched after technical reports and tips indicated abnormal wastewater quality and industrial residue in the local sewage system.

A Jordan Water Company (Miyahuna) field inspection revealed a large staging area used by tankers to illegally dump wastewater into a pipeline leading to the South Amman Wastewater Treatment Plant. Authorities observed three 30-cubic-meter tankers unloading within a single hour during the investigation.

Security forces raided the site and discovered a concealed discharge point hidden inside a zinc-sheet shed, covered under dirt and diesel fuel cans.

Inspectors traced the illegal discharge pipe directly to a main sewer manhole. Technicians eliminated the illegal hookup and collected wastewater samples for laboratory testing to identify the discharged chemicals and assess potential damage.

Investigations revealed that the operator contracted with local factories, charging fees per tanker to illegally dump untreated industrial waste into the public network, a practice that poses a direct threat to the treatment plant.

Authorities initiated legal proceedings against those involved and referred the case to law enforcement.
