Amman, Sept. 30 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Environment and the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) have begun coordination to implement a project to plant 200 vacant land plots across Amman with trees and plants, contributing to increasing green space and improving the urban and environmental landscape in Amman.

The project comes within efforts to enhance cooperation between the two sides and support national efforts aimed at raising the quality of life in cities, increasing green spaces, improving the aesthetics of public spaces, reducing the effects of heat islands, and enhancing the urban environment's ability to adapt to climate change.

According to the memorandum of understanding and coordination between the two sides, work will be done to identify suitable sites and vacant plots for planting according to priorities and technical and environmental considerations and to coordinate in selecting trees, shrubs, and plant species suited to local climatic conditions, taking into account water use efficiency, and to exchange technical expertise and relevant information.

The cooperation includes following up on jointly implemented initiatives and projects and measuring their environmental impact, enhancing the use of available spaces within Amman, and turning them into green elements that contribute to improving the urban landscape and promoting environmental sustainability.

Both sides affirmed that this cooperation embodies the integration of roles between national institutions in implementing government directions related to increasing green spaces, improving the urban environment, and enhancing partnership in serving the city of Amman and raising the quality of life there.

The step comes within the two sides' efforts to expand afforestation and increase green spaces in Amman and to invest available sites sustainably, achieving a tangible environmental and urban impact in the long term.
