Amman, Sept 22 (Petra) -- Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Mazen Al-Qadi said on Tuesday that His Majesty King Abdullah II’s address to the United Nations General Assembly presented a clear roadmap to address regional crises, led by the Palestinian cause, while placing the international community before its legal and moral responsibilities.

In an official statement released by the Lower House, Al-Qadi stated that the royal speech offered a definitive framework for achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution, ending the occupation, and establishing an independent Palestinian state on its national soil.

Al-Qadi noted that the King spoke with the confidence of a state fully cognizant of its national interests and surrounding challenges, emphasizing that Jordan will not look away from any threat to its national security. He affirmed that border integrity, water security, and national interests remain non-negotiable red lines, with Parliament standing firmly behind the King, the Jordanian Armed Forces, and security agencies.

Reflecting on regional developments, particularly in southern Syria, Al-Qadi said His Majesty's remarks demonstrated a precise assessment of emerging threats, asserting that any danger to Jordan’s northern border or water resources represents a direct national security threat that will be met with resolve.

Al-Qadi stressed that protecting national security goes hand in hand with diplomatic engagement. Jordan continues its role in combating terrorism and drug trafficking while advancing its position as a regional hub for trade, industry, and technology.

The speaker highlighted that the King directly confronted Israeli occupation policies, calling out settlement expansion, land confiscation, and forced displacement in the West Bank, as well as the destruction of civilian infrastructure and targeting of non-combatants in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Qadi said the king warned against merely managing the conflict or containing temporary escalations, pointing out that decades of conflict management have only fostered instability and served illegal measures on the ground.

The speaker added that the king questioned the credibility of international law if violations continue for decades without accountability, warning that double standards erode the global legal framework. He affirmed that Jordan will continue to champion the principle that international law must be applied universally without double standards.

Al-Qadi noted that His Majesty rejected framing the conflict in religious terms, reaffirming that it remains a matter of fundamental rights, dignity, and self-determination. He praised Jordan’s role in preserving the true image of Islam, protecting indigenous Christian communities and heritage in the region, and safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem under the Hashemite Custodianship.

Furthermore, Al-Qadi stated that the king situated the Palestinian cause within a broader global context, warning that prolonged conflicts in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, and Ukraine carry far-reaching consequences for global food security, energy, trade, and economic stability.

The Speaker concluded by emphasizing that military force alone cannot produce peace, urging the international community to transition from temporary crisis containment to resolving root causes grounded in international legitimacy and justice. He reiterated Parliament's commitment to supporting the King's stance in defending Jordan's sovereignty and advocating for Palestinian statehood.
