Amman, Sept 22 (Petra) -- Members of the Lower House of Parliament on Tuesday praised His Majesty King Abdullah II’s address to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, describing it as a decisive assertion that Jordan will not ignore any threat to its security, borders, or water resources.

In separate statements to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, MPs emphasized that the royal speech underscored Jordan's steadfast approach to safeguarding state interests while maintaining its regional leadership in counter-terrorism, border defense, and anti-drug smuggling operations.

First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Khamis Attieh said the King placed the international community before its political, moral, and legal responsibilities at a time when international justice is eroding. Attieh highlighted the King's warning against managing crises rather than resolving them, noting that the Palestinian cause cannot remain trapped in empty condemnations.

Attieh stressed that the King put international law to the test, questioning its value when repeated violations occur without accountability. He added that the speech framed Jordan as a principled, reliable global partner committed to dialogue, international legitimacy, and regional stability.

MP Mustafa Al-Amawi noted that the King linked the absence of a political solution to ongoing regional instability, reiterating that the two-state solution and the preservation of Jerusalem's historic status quo remain essential for lasting peace. He added that the speech called for concrete international action addressing broader interconnected challenges, including climate change, food security, and refugee protection.

MP Mustafa Al-Khasawneh stated that the King delivered a clear political assessment connecting the situation in Gaza and the West Bank directly to the future stability of the Middle East. Al-Khasawneh stressed that the King's advocacy for peace stems from strength and principle, emphasizing that Jordan’s national security, water rights, and border integrity remain non-negotiable red lines. He also noted Jordan's unwavering support for UNRWA and the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's holy sites.

MP Othman Al-Makhadmeh emphasized Jordan’s pivotal role under the King’s leadership in defending Arab causes and maintaining regional stability through responsible diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for state sovereignty.

Ahmed Al-Hamaisat, head of the parliamentary bloc of the Initiative Party, commended the King for confronting the international community over double standards and highlighting Palestinian suffering in Gaza and the West Bank. Al-Hamaisat affirmed his coalition's full support for the King's firm stance on national sovereignty and Palestinian statehood.
