Moscow, April 6 (Petra) -- The Kremlin warned on Monday that the escalating conflict in the Middle East poses a severe threat to the global economy, cautioning that a widening of the war could trigger a sharp rise in international prices and inflation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a news conference that the region is experiencing "unprecedented levels of tension" following the expansion of the conflict. He noted that the geographical scope of the hostilities has grown significantly, raising alarm over the potential long-term impact on global financial and energy markets.
"Everyone realizes the scale of the potential repercussions, particularly the negative economic effects that could hit global markets," Peskov said. He added that there are "real and growing fears" regarding the stability of supply chains and the broader inflationary pressure on the world economy.
The warnings come as Russia continues to monitor the impact of the regional crisis on global energy security. Peskov emphasized that the volatility in the Middle East is no longer a localized issue but one that risks destabilizing the international economic order.
The Kremlin’s remarks follow reports of intensifying strikes in the region, which have already begun to unsettle financial markets and increase costs for transportation and logistics. Russian officials stated they remain in contact with regional and international partners to discuss the crisis, while stressing that the current escalation is shifting global priorities and complicating diplomatic efforts on other fronts.
